About the Brio Method

I have been studying, and working intensely over the last 12 years to learn to help people with their health in the best ways possible. I have put together a collection of concepts, and practices that can allow a person to navigate the physical stresses of modern life, and stimulate their body to offer them Brio in all that they do.

Brio means Vigor, Vivacity, Zest, Confidence, Gusto, Panache, and many other words that we would love to describe ourselves with. Many people go through life just ‘making it through the week’, I believe passion and excitement is something that can be made, and that everyone can make it by ensuring they are getting the correct inputs.

Eliciting desired responses from a dog, or any other organism is not so different than getting what we want out of our own bodies. Your body is always adapting and responding to your environment in complex ways that you aren’t fully conscious of, adjusting the dials, and regulating your systems to maintain efficient homeostasis or balance. An unmanaged body may prioritize the wrong activities and positions, lowering your capacity and robbing you of Brio.

The Brio Method offers you an opportunity to take control of your body and your health, with simple, easy to apply concepts that will take you from your bed and into whatever it is you want for yourself.

You might be saying to yourself, well that wasn’t very descriptive, what is actually going on here?

  • Daily time investment in Selfcare
  • Meeting Biological needs
  • Exposing your body to stimulus intelligently, and intentionally
  • Reduce stress from daily activities
  • Training to Upregulate systems

A Closer Look

The concepts of the Brio Method have been uncovered through learning and personal experience. You may have noticed the water theme on my page, and this is very intentional as water has unironically been my greatest teacher.

Life cannot exist as we know it, without water, and movement. Water is always moving toward a resting point, which is rarely found. Water will take the path of least resistance, unless an outside force is acting on it or redirecting it. Water changes state effortlessly when certain environmental conditions are met. Water will fill a container, in any state. Water is freshest when it is moving.

Our bodies are more than 70% water by content. As an organism, mostly made of water, we can find many of these statements about water applying to ourselves. This is the basis of the Performance therapy of the Brio Method. With certain expectations, and understanding of how the body moves and what makes it thrive, we can encourage the body to change state effortlessly as we tweak the environment. This can happen on many levels, whether it is in an Attivita you spend 2 minutes doing, or how you are setting up your work space, or how you are structuring your time. Napolean Hill said, “The habit of taking the path of least resistance makes all rivers, and some men, crooked.” This could not be more true.

Those are the notable ones, not all of them were kept permanent (for those that require upkeep), and there were many smaller clases, conferences, books, experiences that also shaped my career and my work. I am so blessed to be able to help people in the way that I do and I really love it so much. The more I learn the harder I am to trip up, and the more effective I can be.

Ironically, I have grown to need my own services just as must as the most suffering people. I have always had a very tight back, suffered through some chronic training mistakes between 2008-2011, had a bad car accident etc, really weird shoulder blade/rib relationship. Turns out, I have scoliosis! Above and below there are disc bulges, there’s a small herniation, and a small disc protrusion, and some bone spurs in my neck! Found out all in about 6 months between 2018-2019.

If I had not already learned what I had learned, I would probably be near incapacitated or among a number of desperate neck surgeries. I have flare ups, and I manage them gracefully. It’s July 7/27/21 when I’m updating this, and I haven’t had a flare up since Christmas morning. My personal goal is to thrive so hard and fully, and train myself so well that I will never need back surgery and can live to be functional over 100 years of age. 69 to go!

More about Shawn Faver, a Tale of Development

My name is Shawn Faver, and I have spent my life in Central Texas. I have worn a number of hats over the years, and I originally decided to devote my life to helping people in some way about half way through college as I struggled immensely to find what really mattered in a career path. It has been a healthy 10 years since that point, and many realizations and choices have been made. I tried out Nursing earnestly, and decided that I wanted to pursue preventative forms of health promotion, maybe in communities. I get certified as a trainer and went back to school for a Kinesiology degree, with a focus on health promotion in communities. I trained and learned intensely for the next couple of years as I finished my undergrad, and attained new certifications and got experience working with a variety of demographics and injuries/issues. I went on to become a yoga instructor after graduating, and was juggling 4 or 5 fitness and wellness related part time jobs at a time. I just kept going, following what I liked and leaving behind what I didn’t.

For a short time I struggled with what the next step was, how was I supposed to move up from being a trainer working for myself? I felt like I needed one great job, one that had insurance and paid all my bills. That never happened.

I tried some off color positions for me, finally transitioning out of restaurant work was a huge step for me. I had and moved on from some neat stuff, learning what I could and moving along. I spent a year working for a posture therapy company, and that really lit me up. It started a change in me also, one that lead me to be who I am today. Posture therapy is the biggest part of my life, and I get to do some incredible posture related research at my work these days. After that I spent some time as a health coordinator, made some great relationships and learned I hate cooking. I left, and picked up a fun and stimulating job as a therapist at a busy chiropractic clinic and then transitioned to coaching PE for a wonderful private school that let me do some posture research and develop my own curriculum. One great thing about coaching was the time off allowed me to study new practices, like Movnat, Brand X youth coaching, and I read many books. I spend significantly every year on my education and development, most recently I became CHES certified (Certified Health Education Specialist) which helps me do needs and health assessments and identify solutions for people, groups and communities.

Coach was a job absolutely loved, doing the things I enjoy while I teach them to others. In this job I am constantly challenged to keep learning more, and I have been teaching yoga and training part time for years as well. My story is one of decision, and single main direction and purpose. Whether or not you have a purpose in life defines how you live, and the amount of satisfaction you get over the course of your life. I look back on the past and think about what I am doing now, and I am so grateful every single day for the things I get to do to support me and my lifestyle. During my coaching I started a blog Faveryourself.com it was fun, but didn’t really pick up like I wanted and became another chore. I coached another year, and Covid happened… my transition to Wellness Director at an investment firm was cancelled( Check out my related TV appearance), and I established the Brio Method. I had been preparing to be the face of a brand of wellness for a couple years, and it was easy to put that time and energy into my own work instead of for someone else. It’s been so great, it’s been a whole year now! My business is a toddler and I have helped some wonderful people.

One of my problems has always been that I don’t want to charge people for helping them, because everyone deserves to be well. I have helped a lot of people with a lot of physical problems, labral tears, spondylolisthesis, degenerative hips, neck pain, back pain, hamstring tears, hip flexor tears, heel spurs, bunions, constipation, scoliosis, general injury, herniations, hernias, birth defects, sciatica, carpal tunnel, tennis elbow, migraines, ankle pronations, and preventing joint surgery, Ehlers Danlos etc. I content myself by charging low market rate, and providing insane amounts of value!! Maybe you could be one of those people.
